Tax Exoneration

Apply and upload all documents through Irembo (www.irembo.gov.rw) → Foreign Affairs Consular ServicesRequest for Tax Exemption on Personal Belongings for Rwandans Returning Permanently from Abroad

Once the application has been submitted, the Embassy will notify the applicant to schedule an appointment to submit the required documents.

Required documents for the service: 

• Request Letter addressed to the Commissioner General of Rwanda Revenue Authority, Cc: the Ambassador of Rwanda 
• Vehicle Registration Certificate [Original Copy]
• Vehicle De-registration Certificate [Original Copy]
• Vehicle Insurance Certificate [Original Copy]
• Vehicle Transfer of Ownership Certificate [Original Copy]
• Valid Rwandan Passport [Copy]
• Rwandan National ID Card [Copy]
• Valid Korean Registration Card [Copy of Front & Back]
• Returning air ticket [Copy]
• Admission certificate and Study Completion Certificate for Students [Notarized Copy]

*List ALL personal belongings to be taken within the request letter. 

RWANDA REVENUE TAX EXONERATION GUIDELINES:

Here are the requirements by Customs for tax exemption on personal effects, including a personal car imported by the Returning Rwandans:

- Upon submission of the requirements listed above, the Embassy will provide a recommendation letter to returning residents to be granted tax exemption:
- For vehicles, the returning Rwandan must provide a vehicle registration certificate showing his / her ownership for at least a period of ONE YEAR with its insurance copy issued in the course of one year of usage.
- Provide a copy of the bill of lading (BOL) or airway bill (i.e., a detailed list of the items to be shipped in the form of a receipt)
